Cash Cow from Chillingo, for the iPod Touch and iPhone, is a game that almost anyone can enjoy. If you are a fan of puzzle games, you may find hours of enjoyment from this game. While Cash Cow is rather simplistic in nature, slick controls and an easy to understand layout make the game accessible for all age groups.
You play as Buck the Cow as he attempts to save his farm from being foreclosed on by the bank. The player must sort through Buck’s piles of loose change to get the amount needed to save his farm. Cash Cow consists of 25 levels which, and every level has a timer on the left side of the screen, which the user must beat in order to advance. The pace of the game moves much quicker as the player progresses through it. Also, the amount of money needed to advance in the game increases with each level. For instance, in the first level you may only need to collect five dollars on the screen and have plenty of time to do so.
The coins are all laid out in a square with a 6x6 ratio. That is, 6 rows and 6 spaces per each row. In order to combine the different coins, they must touch at least one other coin in the combination. The player highlights the coins by touching them using your index finger. During the game, certain combinations will give the user special power-ups. For example, after combining two dimes and a nickel, a glowing quarter will appear. Now if you combine this with another similar coin(s), you will receive a power-up. This includes a roll of pennies, a sack of money, and a cash register. Each of these icons will have a different effect on the board. The roll of pennies will cause all of the pennies on the board to be added to the total amount of money already gained. The special power-up is a nice way to back up the monotony of the game. It can also be a saving grace when time is rapidly disappearing for the player.
Not only does the timer quicken, as mentioned previously, there are several in game challenges that will present themselves. In one particular instance, you may have two ladybugs flying around to disrupt your game (FYI: you can’t include the coins they land on in your combinations). If have the unfortunate luck of this happening, it can cost you an entire game.
Cash Cow is a simple, straight forward, fun game and it thrives because of it. It’s a nice way to spend time while waiting for a flight, in a doctor’s office or if you are just killing time after lunch. If you love straight forward gaming and simple controls, Cash Cow is a game that will offer you countless hours of entertainment, at the small cost of downloading the application from your iTunes store.
