(Preview) About Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising:
As the much anticipated return of the genre-defining military conflict title, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is set to take gamers as close to war as they’ll ever want to get. In a shooter that recreates the brutal reality of the modern combat experience in stunning detail, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will challenge players to survive the chaos and rapidly evolving situations of modern warfare in a new contemporary theatre.
Players will experience the intensity, diversity and claustrophobia of a present day conflict from the unique perspectives of an infantry marine and a Special Forces officer, each engaged against the full force of the Chinese PLA on the huge open-world island of Skira. Gameplay simulates an immense conflict between advanced forces and provides unparalleled scope with different military disciplines, vehicles and equipment for players to utilise.
A visceral, thrilling core combat experience: Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising puts the fear back into FPS by creating a gaming experience which brings players as close to war as they’ll ever want to get. A rewarding and exciting mid to long range combat experience where one hit can kill and a catastrophic damage system damage system that authentically depicts the terrible wounds and injury inflicted by modern warfare ensure Dragon Rising delivers the most realistic combat experience ever created for consoles.
Action-packed co-op and single player campaign mode: With the entire campaign fully playable in co-op with four players, gamers will assume the roles of both USMC infantry and spec ops during the intense 11 mission campaign as the war plays out across Skira island. With an average mission length of up to one hour for a straight play through, the open-ended structure means each mission could engage players for much longer, depending on their tactics.
Online Presence: In addition to four-player co-operative gaming throughout the entire campaign mode, console versions of Dragon Rising will support PvP multiplayer for eight players, including Annihilation (death match style) and Infiltration (asymmetric style) modes where players control a squad of 3 NPCs with access to a vehicle or work with other human players in the same fireteam as a commander or subordinate. With each player controlling a four-strong fireteam, the game provides up to 32 characters on-screen in huge firefights. In addition, the PC version will include a mission editor.
Intricate attention to detail and unprecedented realism in a console FPS: Accurate USMC tactics and equipment are used throughout Dragon Rising and US Marines were used as consultants during development to ensure authenticity. Realistic munitions chillingly recreate the impact of war like never before in a videogame. There are no ‘magic pockets’ in Dragon Rising - weapons are carried and operated as they are in real life. The game’s bleed system means no hiding behind rocks and magically healing -players have eight pints of blood and will bleed to death if a serious wound is left unattended. Serious wounds will have visible effects on the player’s physical performance (speed reduced, vision impaired etc).
Scalable for every type of action gamer: A series of user interface aids allow the gamer to scale the level of realism to suit their preference. Those looking for ultra-realism can switch off enemy markers, mission markers, crosshairs and even the compass!
