Everyone loves the idea of hunting for buried treasure right? Through Skeleton Key from Insurgent Games you can live out that fantasy, partially at least, with your iPhone and/or iPod Touch.
In Skeleton Key your character becomes a treasure hunter when they discover numerous sets of keys that belong to their specific treasure chests. It is your character’s goal to guide the keys to their rightful chests, claiming the treasure that lies inside.
The game reminds me of Tetris. The goal is to get the keys to one of the chests at the bottom of the screen. You start off with two keys but they increase in number throughout the game. Using your finger to swipe left, right, and down the user guides the keys into the treasure chests waiting at the bottom of the screen while maneuvering around obstacles that appear in your path.
The most challenging aspect of the game is the obvious lack of an upward motion. Once you move down you cannot go back and fix your mistake. This can make Skeleton Key a rather challenging game as you progress through the various levels as the obstructions to the treasure chests become more abundant. For added challenge you are only allowed so many moves per level. The moves do increase as the user progresses through the game to correspond with the enhanced difficulty. Points are award by how many moves are left when you have successfully maneuvered the keys to their treasure chests.
Each time that you are unable to move your keys into the chests you are charged 1 life. You begin the game with 3 lives which increase as you successfully complete levels throughout the game.
The game is made up of 120 levels which give you hours of entertainment at your fingertips. From those 120 levels the game is divided into 4 sub-levels: the Forest, Caves, Beach and Pirate Ship stages.
What’s the final verdict on Skeleton Key? Well, it’s definitely a mentally challenging game (at least for me anyway!) that is a great way to train your mind and may give you some headaches along the way. I tend to gravitate towards games and/or applications like this as it keeps gives the brain a good workout. If you enjoy puzzle games and brain teasers it is a nice addition to your iPhone or iPod Touch game collection.
Skeleton Key, from Insurgent Games, is available for $1.99 in the iTunes Store.
